OpenStax Partnership

In July 2016 Washington State University was chosen to participate in a strategic partnership program with OpenStax, a publisher of openly licensed textbooks. OpenStax is an initiative based at Rice University and funded by numerous sponsors including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. OpenStax publishes over 20 textbooks primarily geared toward general education courses in disciplines including chemistry, biology, calculus, U.S. history, sociology, physics, psychology, and economics. All books are authored and reviewed by faculty members at colleges and universities across the country. Books are available digitally at no cost and in print for approximately $30-60.

OpenStax textbooks can be adopted in their entirety for use in courses at WSU or adapted to include additional material. To learn more about OpenStax, please contact Michael Caulfield at michael.caulfield@vancouver.wsu.edu or 360-546-9157.
